
Teaching: Dr. Cox is teaching nurse-midwifery for the graduate program. She previously taught for the Florida Gulf Coast University, Fort Myers, in the BSN program.
Research: Dr. Cox’s research focuses on the social, political, and economic aspects of midwifery and women’s health, including health disparities in disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. She also has a background in medical anthropology. Her recent research focused on decision-making for mode of delivery for women with a previous cesarean section. She is also interested in global women’s health issues, such as the reduction of maternal mortality and the training of skilled birth attendants.
Service: Dr. Cox is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the Florida Council of Nurse-Midwives, and the Florida Nurse’s Association. She is also a peer reviewer for the Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health. Dr. Cox is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau.
Area of Expertise: Dr. Cox is a Certified Nurse-Midwife with clinical expertise in midwifery, maternity nursing, women’s health, and public health. She practices at Shands Jacksonville Health Science Center.
Education: Dr. Cox received her BSN, MN, and PhD degrees from the University of Florida.
