
Teaching: Dr. Reed teaches both didactic and clinic nursing courses in the undergraduate traditional and accelerated BSN programs as well as teaching coursework in the graduate nursing programs. She has taught adult medical surgical nursing and health promotion both here at the University of Florida as well as at Troy State University in Montgomery. She has also worked as a staff educator in the home care, hospital and rehabilitation settings.
Research: Dr. Reed has multiple and diverse areas of research interest including spinal cord injury and urinary management options, other aspects of patient independence and rehabilitation nursing, culture and staff development, international nursing education and tuberculosis.
Service: Dr. Reed has been a member of the American Heart Association as a CPR instructor since 1982 teaching numerous community and professional classes. Additionally, she is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Nursing Society and the Association for Rehabilitation Nursing. She has developed and implemented elderly health promotion programming to educate area elderly on home safety, fall prevention and stroke identification. Dr. Reed visited Cambodia spring 2007 to teach staff nurses rehabilitation nursing.
Area of Expertise: Dr. Reed is certified as a rehabilitation nurse and she was the first executive director of ElderCare of Alachua County, a grant funded program providing community and home based programs for area elderly. Her areas of expertise also include home care, and staff education.
Education: Dr. Reed graduated with her BSN (1979) from Troy State University in Troy, Alabama and she went on to graduate with her MSN in Adult Health (1982) from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Troy State University in Montgomery in Montgomery, Alabama to complete all but her dissertation for an Education Specialist Degree with a major in Education Administration emphasis in Adult Education. May 2007, Dr. Reed completed her Doctor of Health Science Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
