Teaching: Professor Bruney’s primary responsibilities lie in teaching primary care pediatrics to Pediatric Nurse Practitioner students and Family Nurse Practitioner Students. Other courses regularly taught include Role Development for advanced practice students as well as Health Assessment. Professor Bruney has taught and enjoyed Research Utilization and Practicum courses.
Research: Research interests include adolescent bio-psychosocial issues, childhood ADHD, asthma and allergies in the pediatric population, reproductive technology and sexuality, as well as the influence of state regulation on such things as cognitive processing, attention, and sleep. Ethical decision-making as it applies to the pediatric population is another research interest. Quantitative research interests include the incidence of iron deficiency in the pediatric population, as well as identifying and describing subtle physiologic manifestations of iron deficiency.
Service: Professor Bruney is a member of the American Nurses’ Association, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and holds national certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses’ Credentialing Committee. Past service includes the College of Nursing Faculty Practice Committee.
Practice: As a member of a collaborative pediatric primary care practice in Gainesville, Florida, Professor Bruney sees children and adolescents for well child care, episodic acute illness care and chronic disease management. Her colleagues include 2 pediatricians and another pediatric nurse practitioner.
Area of expertise: Pediatric Primary Care, providing evidence-based, holistic health care to children and adolescents. Particular expertise in pediatric asthma and allergy, ADHD, adolescent health, bio-psychosocial disorders, and infectious disease.
